I think we all can agree that RP as a whole is dulling down a bit on FM, and as members of this server and members of an RP guild, it's our duty to ensure that it survives. It's always been the duty of the players to ensure the survival of Roleplay, and the servers where the players just don't care are the servers where RP is all but a fleeting memory. So here's a few ideas that tend to drastically spark roleplay, maybe people could give some input on them!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
RP TAVERN - Player run taverns have ALWAYS attracted crowds. People just love the aura of taverns, and there are enough empty ones that NPCs don't bother players who visit. Possible location ideas include the bars/empty areas in Western Silvermoon, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, Orgrimmar, Ratchet, or even Booty Bay.
Pros:
Cons:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
BACHELOR AUCTIONS - Known for attracting customers with lots of money, eligible bachelor auctions are another big attractor for RP. They bring in high money and large crowds, but only for the duration of the auction. Also ensuring that the dating payment actually occurs can be very tedious to keep track of.
Pros:
Cons:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
BALL/DANCE - A one time event that can be rather romantic for RP couples, a ball or dance is a formal get together for players, with the only thing more formal typically being a wedding. Problems exist with a ball/dance though in how to make your character dance...and fit in.
Pros:
Cons:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SPEED DATING - Another Romantic Event, only put on turbo speed. Speed dating creates couples. Couples lead to RP. RP leads to happiness. A simple formula, and speed dating has occurred in the past with fairly decent turn outs.
Pros:
Cons:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
CAMPING - As summer approaches and the heat starts to begin, some characters may begin to think they can conquer the world like Hemet Nesingwary and a large camping trip can begin. Camping trips tend to be very open in terms of RP, sometimes being romantic events, sometimes being scary-as-**** events depending on what happens.

Cons:

RP TAVERN - Player run taverns have ALWAYS attracted crowds. People just love the aura of taverns, and there are enough empty ones that NPCs don't bother players who visit. Possible location ideas include the bars/empty areas in Western Silvermoon, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, Orgrimmar, Ratchet, or even Booty Bay.
Pros:
- RP Taverns have proven time and time again that they pull in large crowds for roleplay. They continuously bring in roleplay and can easily create a new hub for roleplay where roleplay never previously existed.
- Although you typically sell drinks cheaper than what you paid for it from the vendors (to get people to purchase from the tavern instead of an NPC), tips almost always cover lost expenses and then some, making taverns somewhat profitable.
- RP'd Drunken Bar Brawls. 'Nuff said.
Cons:
- Bars can be very tedious to run and require the efforts of multiple players to run properly without causing burn out. Trying to upkeep a bar alone when it has many players RPing in it can very very quickly cause for a burn out and desire to end the Tavern RPs.
- Selling drinks at discount and then not getting tips causes for some monetary loss, even if it rarely occurs.
Pros:
- Bachelor Auctions tend to attract large crowds, even larger than that of RP Taverns. At least for the duration of the auction.
- Bachelor Auctions bring in the money. Quickly too. The income can be spread up among the bachelors or kept for other guild related means.
Cons:
- Making sure the auctioned off players keep their part of the bargain and actually have a date RP can be tedious to keep track of, and never having it can cause former customers to complain that they did not get their money worth.
- Straight character being auctioned off to a member of the same gender. 'Nuff Said.
- Unlike bars which bring in customers time and time again, an auction is typically a one time wonder.
- Getting enough guys or girls to auction off can be a chore in and of itself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
BALL/DANCE - A one time event that can be rather romantic for RP couples, a ball or dance is a formal get together for players, with the only thing more formal typically being a wedding. Problems exist with a ball/dance though in how to make your character dance...and fit in.
Pros:
- Romantic Event. Can draw in large crowds but more often than not, attracts smaller groups of people. And almost always couples, rarely someone flying solo.
- Small crowds leads to more personal one-on-one RP, amplifying the romantic nature of a ball/dance.
- Rarely if ever performed, so it is typically a unique event that turns heads and makes people want to see what it is all about.
Cons:
- The band can say it is playing a slow song...but there is no real song being played in WoW. Pretend songs.
- The singer can be singing, but it's just words. Unless they are singing a popular song that people can recognize by the lyrics, it is just words that nobody knows the tempo to.
- Dancing. The band is playing a slow song. The singer is singing a recognizable slow song. Do you come up with your own custom emoted dance moves or do you just say "Screw it," type /dance, and start performing your MC Hammer dance?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
SPEED DATING - Another Romantic Event, only put on turbo speed. Speed dating creates couples. Couples lead to RP. RP leads to happiness. A simple formula, and speed dating has occurred in the past with fairly decent turn outs.
Pros:
- Having your characters rapidly meet others with their own unique (and sometimes scary) personalities can lead to both romance and comedy. One minute you are speaking with Mister Right, the next you are speaking to a guy who seems to keep slapping his face and saying how he killed his whole family with his gunarm.
- Speed Dating can lead to couples, which gives characters storyline progression and can lead to further RPing of that character as they explore the new storylines that have opened up.
Cons:
- Unless you set it up for both heterosexual and homosexual characters, some characters will be shafted and ineligible in this event solely due to sexual orientation.
- Speed Dating is a relatively fast event and players sometimes leave with their new boyfriend/girlfriend early.
- Married characters get shafted unless one or both are cheating/swinging.
Pros:
- RPing in new places where RP otherwise would never survive in a big group camping trip.
- Open to all forms of alterations in storyline: Maybe the camping trip goes smooth and it is just a fun event, maybe it was raining and the trip sucks, maybe it becomes a disaster event and a total recreation of the Donner Party accident where survival of the fittest becomes the theme. It's all up to the players.
Cons:
- Removing your character from a major roleplay hub for an extended period of time makes you rely on the other campers for RP, and if they aren't on, your character isn't able to RP.
- Being a low level commonly can be a disaster in camping trips. High levels have to protect you, but even then, you aggro things from about 200 yards away so you are always under attack.
