Let me start off by saying we are not the worst raid out there. I’ve been in some pretty bad ones. It is my opinion that there are things we can work on that can make us more productive while maintaining all the fun and humor to have a good time. This is solely based on my personal experience with several raids, my military experiences, and observations made thus far with out group. It’s totally meant to be objective and constructive criticism to help better ourselves.
The first thing is be on time, if not a little early. It really hurts when it’s the scheduled time to start and we’re still waiting for people to get here. Cause then people get frustrated or upset and that attitude carries over through the raid. I know people like to get that last thing done but we all know what time we start invites and what time we start pulling. I’m not saying you need to be outside ready to go before invites start. I’m simply saying that if you are going when it’s time for invites, you should finish up what your currently doing and go get ready so you can be summoned.
Next is listening to the leaders. When one of the leaders say go summon a player that isn’t here, that means people need to go summon. The raid leaders asked several times last night for people to go summon two or three people so we could start. No one, including myself, went till someone got upset. Same thing happened at the end when we needed to summon a replacement. That isn’t good for having fun and something we should work on.
Boss strategies. Raid Leaders seem to have a really good idea of the strategy for specific bosses. This includes player positioning, assignments, and coordination as well as things the boss will do. Something I was guilty of in the past was openly makes suggestions when explanations were being given. It’s something I’ve worked on correcting. I’m not saying that suggestions can’t be offered. Just stating in the middle of the explanation probably isn’t the best time. If you got something you think is better, send the leader a tell with your suggestion. It’s much better than questioning them in the open. On the flip side, if you’re the leader and actually like and use the suggestion, be sure to let the player know. It goes a long way.
Vent. There is time for goofing around and having fun on vent and a time to concentrate and get serious. During boss fights and strategies isn’t the time for everyone to be talking. As we’ve seen last night, things happen that may or may not get caught by the mods being run and commands are being called out over vent. My suggestion here would be to keep it clear during boss fights that we aren’t one shotting constantly and let designated people call out things. When we’re killing trash or bosses we’ve killed numerous times with this raid group, I don’t see the harm in chatting it up and having fun.
Unnecessary AFK’s. This was touched on last night. A lot of people were just going AFK with out telling people. Now I don’t know what the reasons were nor am I going to ask. I know some people might have kids, I do, and emergencies happen. What can get irritating is having people go afk to get a drink, go to the bathroom, grab a snack or other silly things that could wait till a better time. If it’s an emergency or something major, sure go ahead. Put someone on follow and let others know if you can. I know I’m guilty of walking away when I die during trash to grab that quick drink or bag of chips. Something I’ll work on and I hope others do as well. My suggestion here is while invites are going out, grab your drinks and snacks. Hit the bathroom. We only raid for 3 hours and I’m certain that the leadership would put up a 5 minute pee timer if needed. Having a set time for bio/snack breaks is better than everyone going when ever the feel like.
Buffing assignments. This is, I believe, more for the leadership to handle or assign someone in the class to handle. What this allows is faster wipe recovery. That way when we wipe on a boss or trash, we can rez, buff up and be right back to kicking the instances ass and taking the loot. I can’t speak for the other classes, but I know that mage buffing really isn’t set up so some things might get missed.
Prep time. This is the time taken before starting to get things in order. Passing out buff assignments, tank targets, kill order, CC targets, and get biscuits/cookies should all be taken care of here. This enables a smoother raid and more fun to be had by all. It will also help to decrease downtime. Prep time can also include any time out of the game that you can read up on a boss strategy to get an understanding of what to expect.
As I stated before, this is just some constructive criticism and suggestion to help us progress forward, while maintaining a cheerful and fun atmosphere for all. If you have other suggestions, please list them.
